Echo Park is flanked by Elysian Valley to the north and northeast, Elysian Park to the east, Chinatown and Downtown La to the southeast, Westlake to the southwest and west, and Silver Lake to the northwest.
Echo Park is home to many up and coming actors, musicians, writers and new and older families. This community was originally founded by a real estate developer named Thomas Kelly. It is told that Echo Park got it’s name from when the builders of the reservoir remarked that their voices echoed off the canyon walls.
In the center of Echo Park is Echo Park Lake which has 26 acres as well as the lake, with paddle boats that you can rent hourly. This park is home to the annual Lotus Festival, an Asian Celebration complete with Chinese Dragon boat races as well as booths of wonderful food and amazing treasures.
The nightlife in Echo Park is excellent. If you love music, then Echo Park is the place for you. Indie music venues, trendy bars and taco trucks can be found along Sunset Boulevard, along with coffee shops, vegan eats and quirky boutiques. Nearby is Dodger Stadium and hiking at Elysian Park. Angelino Heights is a picturesque nook with Victorian homes.
